The Scottish Futsal Super League kicked off 2024 with an avalanche of goals after an incredible 52 flew in across just three games.
Dundee were on fire in East Kilbride as they moved back to the top of the Scottish Futsal Super League with a merciless 23-5 defeat of TJ Slovak Lads.
Hot on their heels are Aberdeen following a hard-fought win over Joga at the same venue after Letham Santos put 12 past Edinburgh University to move up to fourth.
Edinburgh University 4-12 Letham Santos
Santos were on top at Edinburgh University as they registered their third victory of the campaign.
Scott Mollison led the way on the goal front for the Perth side, scrambling home the first of his three to see the visitors in front after six minutes.
Two minutes later Fraser Smith finished from an angle to put Santos in control.
That control would grow thanks to a Ryan Robb double followed by Michael Cook’s deflected effort making it 5-0.
Long Tran got the Uni on the board before Paul Simpson finished off a team move.
The students grabbed two more through Gordon Megson and Hector Blanchard to cut the arrears at half-time to 6-3.
Santos, however, were too good in the second period and racked up a further six goals after the break with Mollison striking twice, Martin Cassells and Simpson also adding to Jayden Donald’s double.
Jonathan Chaplin grabbed a late brace but it was the Perth outfit registering victory in 2024’s first Super League contest.
Joga 3-5 Aberdeen
Attention switched to East Kilbride for the later games and the action kicked off in Lanarkshire with a battle of youth versus experience.
Both sides are in their first Super League seasons but it was the more experienced Aberdeen outfit who came out on top.
The young Joga side were caught out playing fly keeper in the opening half as Callum Dunbar fired in two quickfire goals to put the visitors 2-0 up inside four minutes.
He grabbed his hat-trick two minutes later before the hosts got on the scoresheet through Jacob Donelly.
Grant Campbell restored the three-goal lead before Josh Farquhar made it 4-2 at half-time.
Owen Cairns then extended that lead on 28 minutes as Aberdeen kept their opponents at bay to maintain their unbeaten campaign.
The north-east side moved above champions PYF Saltires in the table and have the opportunity to go top of the division with victory at home to Galacticos this Sunday.
Joga, meanwhile, travel to Edinburgh University with the chance to move back into the top five.
TJ Slovak Lads 5-23 Dundee
Dundee racked up their biggest Super League result ever as they became the first side this season to break the 20-goal barrier.
Within four minutes, the visitors were 4-0 up and the match was over as a contest.
Rhys Fraser had a hat-trick by that time with Faisal Ahmed also getting in on the act.
Those two were in a mean goalscoring mood, grabbing 12 goals between them.
It was 11-0 by half-time with Jaydon Clark (2), Ross Paterson (2) and Munro Mitchell on target.
Injuries struck for TJ Slovak Lads, leaving them short of replacements as the match wore on.
But they did get going on the goal front after the break through Leonid Fedorov and an own goal.
Ryan Wilkie and a Juraj Olexa double took their second half tally to five.
Dundee, however, were merciless in their finishing as they added a further 12 to their 11 first-half goals.
Fraser finished up with seven, Ahmed with five while Mitchell got three as Clark, Paterson, Kamil Kadela and Adam Shaffi all notched braces.
Victory saw Dundee return to the top of the Super League table while Slovak Lads remain in bottom spot.
