Scottish Futsal Cup Quarter-Finals: 27 goals fly in as last four take their places

Updated: Mar 22

The Scottish Cup semi-finals will be an all-Super League affair.

The quarter-finals took place in Dundee with 27 goals flying in at DISC.

Holders Aberdeen will take on Joga while league champions PYF Saltires face Futsal Escocia in the last four.

PYF Saltires 12-0 Edinburgh University B

Sunday’s action kicked off with Super League leaders PYF taking on underdogs Edinburgh University B.

The Perth side took the lead through Dell Newlands after four minutes.

Chances kept coming but the students held firm for much of the first half.

The chance was there to make it 1-1 on eight minutes but for a save from Saltires keeper Conor Dow.

Shortly after, however, it was 2-0 thanks to a Conor McLaren strike and more goals came before the break.

Goalkeeper Ted Armstrong did what he could, pulling off a number of saves.

But there was no stopping PYF racking up a big score.

Newlands, McLaren and Scott Ballingall all grabbed hat-tricks with Scott Smith and Ross Cameron also on target.

Futsal Escocia 5-3 Dundee

The most enticing quarter final of the day didn’t disappoint.

Dundee got the better of Escocia in the Super League back in November.

But this was Escocia’s day in a keenly-fought contest.

They capped a strong start with a seventh-minute goal from Calum Peddie before Dundee worked their way back into the game and levelled through Scott Milne.

Shortly before half-time, Dundee’s Calvin Wood earned a second yellow card to give Escocia the extra man.

And they made that count in the final minute of the period with a set-piece seeing Aiden Mackenzie let fly from range to make it 2-1.

Shortly after the break the lead was extended thanks to an unfortunate but spectacular own goal.

Dundee, however, fought back to level once more. That man Milne was on target once again following a one-two with Kamil Kadela.

Escocia net their winner.

Milne then hit the bar before making it 3-3 after 29 minutes.

It was anyone’s game at this point. Dundee tried to counter an Escocia attack but saw themselves countered before Cameron Taylor put his team back in front.

A further red card, this time for Milne, saw Dundee chase the game with a man down.

And Escocia again made the most of the extra player to seal victory thanks to Callum Husband’s lobbed finish.

Ambassadors 0-7 Aberdeen

These two sides had knocked in over 200 goals between them this season.

But it was the Super League side who grabbed all the goals in this contest.

Grant Campbell opened the scoring on three minutes and the holders never looked back.

A wonder save from Ambassadors goalie Matteo Garofano denied Owen Cairns on eight minutes.

But seconds later Cairns got his goal, firing in a fierce effort after a give and go.

That was it for the opening 20 with the tie still in the balance going into the second half.

Aberdeen, though, stepped it up and knocked in five second-half goals to keep their defence of the trophy going strong.
